Organizations that have done garden projects

Kokua Hawaii Foundation

  • Non-profit organization that educates schools and communities about environmental factors.
  • Mission: To teach the next generation how to take care of the planet, so they can take action to save the planet.
  • First hand experiences, and hands on activities.
  • Created an "Aina For Schools" program that is about connecting the children and families to the land and the people who grow their food.

Wahiawa Rotary Club

  • Works on service projects that benefit the community.
  • They have worked on garden projects and have put fences around the garden to protect it from predators.

UH Manoa Master Gardening Program.

  • Volunteer work that researches how to assist home gardeners, and provide information.
  • They actually have master gardeners to provide the information and research.

Mililani Uka Elementary

  • Created a Garden Club where third graders once a week helps plant, take care of schools garden bed, and participate in field trips pertaining to the garden.
  • Students learn about sustainability and growing local healthy foods.

Kahuku High School- Compost System

  • Takes food waste and converts it into compost.
  • They also recycle.
  • By composting and recycling, the school has reduced the frequency garbage trucks coming and saved thousands of dollars.
  • Use the compost and put it into the soil, their garden being healthy and thriving.
